Ed Balls joined Tamsin Dunwoody at Pebble Brook and Wistaston Green Primary School.
Pebble Brook Primary has improved considerably over the last five years. Headteacher Donna Reid has steered the school out of special measures to a position where they have some of the best SATs results in Cheshire .
Tamsin and Ed joined a group of tear six pupils who have completed their week long SATs tests held having a special Teddy Bear's Picnic in the school's gardens.
Ed and Tamsin then visited Wisaston Green primary, which has been completely rebuilt over the last four years. The school are holding a ‘naming ceremony’ for one of the buildings to commemorate Gwyneth Dunwoody’s work in the area.
Following the two school visits Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls said:
"It has been a real privilege to visit Pebble Brook Primary and Wistaston Green Primary. Both schools show what can be achieved when teachers are given the support they need to get the job done.
"Pebble Brook Primary has quite literally been turned around from a failing school in special measures to a good school. Head Teacher Donna Reed and her team are to be congratulated on the tremendous work they are doing here.
"Wistaston Green Primary is a trail blazing eco school. It truly is a school of the future. It is clear that children are thriving here.
"Tamsin is a great candidate, I know she will campaign for more investment in local
schools just like her mother did."
Tamsin Dunwoody added:
"Both these schools were close to my mum's heart. She regularly visited the both of them, as she did all schools in the area.
"I was deeply touched during the naming ceremony at Wistaston Green Primary. Mum worked very hard with the school to help secure the funding to get the school rebuilt and to have one of the school buildings named "The Dunwoody" is something that would have made her very proud.
"My mum taught me the meaning of hard work and determination and that's what I want to do in this area.
