The Dunwoody 'Community Champion Award'
Tamsin and the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith have launched a campaign to highlight the work of community champions. The ‘Community Champion’ award has been founded to draw attention to community heroes like grandmother of four Kath Harvey, aged 81, who won the Mayor's 'Good Neighbourhood Award' earlier this year. The Dunwoody Community Champion Award was launched in honour of Tamsin's mother Gwynenth. Kath, who has lived on Stanthorne Avenue in Crewe for more than 40 years believes in taking action to solve anti social behaviour. After tea and biscuits with Tamsin and Jacqui, Kath Harvey said “Jacqui and Tamsin are really down to earth people. Tamsin will be good because she is like her mother. I think she will be for the people.” Jacqui Smith MP said "What Tamsin is talking about is what the people on the streets are talking to her about. "Never mind high falutin' national issues, arguments about what is going on at a national and international level, what Tamsin knows is what matters to the people of Crewe. "That is how they feel about their communities, whether or not the town centre is getting regenerated and what she can do to make sure that people can feel safe. "I think it is a measure of the sort of candidate and the sort of MP that Tamsin will be that she is focusing on those issues."
